Ha Long Bay, ancient Hoi An, Hanoi's old quarter and the Mekong Delta — Vietnam from north to south.
Vietnam is one of Asia's most compelling travel destinations — a country of extraordinary geographical diversity, deep cultural heritage and a food tradition that is widely considered among the world's finest. From the misty hills of Sapa to the limestone karsts of Ha Long Bay to the beaches of Da Nang and the ancient town of Hoi An, Vietnam rewards every type of traveller.
Hanoi's old quarter is one of the most atmospheric urban environments in Asia — 36 ancient trade streets, French colonial architecture, excellent street food and the extraordinary Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum complex. Ha Long Bay, 3.5 hours east, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the world's natural wonders — we arrange luxury liveaboard cruises rather than day-trip boats.
Hoi An's ancient town is possibly the most beautiful in Southeast Asia — a UNESCO-listed collection of merchant houses, temples and bridges that somehow survived the American war intact. It's also outstanding for tailoring, food and beaches. Da Nang, 30 minutes north, has excellent resorts and good transport connections.
Saigon — as it's still called locally — is Vietnam's commercial capital, energy made urban. The Cu Chi tunnels, the Mekong Delta, the Cao Dai temple and the war remnants museum are all significant. The nearby island of Phu Quoc offers excellent beaches and resorts.
We specialise in north-to-south Vietnam itineraries combining the best of all three regions. Fly into Hanoi, cruise Ha Long Bay, fly to Da Nang for Hoi An and the beaches, then fly to Ho Chi Minh City for the final leg. Two weeks covers this well; three weeks allows for Sapa and the Mekong Delta.
Many nationalities now qualify for an e-visa for Vietnam valid for 90 days. We confirm your specific requirements at booking and assist with the application process.
Vietnam is a very safe country for tourists. The main risks are traffic (chaotic in cities) and food hygiene in very local establishments. Major tourist areas are extremely safe.
Vietnam's climate varies significantly by region. February to April is generally good throughout the country. We advise on timing based on which parts you want to visit.
